Alarm Lock webinars schedule April 5 & 7

Alarm Lock has scheduled training sessions on DL Windows v5 and Basic Networx Connectivity for the first week of April. Join Andy Phelps CRL, CAI for valuable training sessions on DL Windows version 5 and Basic Networx Connectivity scheduled for April 5 and April 7.

 

Schedule

Tuesday April 5 will have 2 sessions on DL Windows version 5 at 11am and 3pm EDT. These sessions will cover the Alarm Lock Trilogy programming software and Andy will show you how to create a new account which includes lock profiles, lock users, schedules and some of the more advanced features of the Trilogy locks.

 

Thursday April 7 will have 2 sessions on Basic Networx Connectivity at 11am and 3pm EDT. These sessions will continue the DL Windows v5 training pertaining to the Networx lock system including how to add gateways, expanders and locks to the account. Some of the advanced features of the Networx system will also be covered.

Error when programming Trilogy locks from a newly created account in DL Windows

When you create a new account and want to program the locks via either the DTM III or AL-PCI2U cable, you must create a Security Password prior to programming. This is new to DL Windows versions 5.4.2 and higher.

To create a Security Password, first click on "Tools" in the header list. Then click on "Set Security Password".

Create a 6 character password. Alphanumeric only, no special characters.

Once the password is set successfully, you will be able to program the Trilogy locks. This password can not be changed once set, so keep it in a safe place.

DL Windows and Networx recorded webinars available now

If you did not have an opportunity to attend the latest webinar sessions on the newest version of DL Windows, version 5.5.3, then you are in luck. These sessions were recorded and are available by clicking the link below. There will be more live webinars in January. There will be a notification posted on this blog when the dates and registration links are available.

These sessions covered the everyday basics of the DL Windows software and also highlighted some of the new features that have been added. Some of these features include new Networx lock models that were not available in past versions. There are new Enhanced Emergency Lockdown Functions available for the Networx locks.

New convenience features such as "Disable" users in the right click menu under the Global screen, the Sort feature in the user's list will not revert to the default setting when Global is closed and there is now an Audit trail for DL Windows actions. This new Audit trail will record the actions of software users inside the software to track actions taken by operators such as removing/disabling users to lock profiles.

There are to many items to list here but if you want to upgrade to the latest version, version 5.5.3, there is link below to download it for free. Inside the downloaded folder, there are instructions on how to migrate your database from the old version of SQL, 2008 Server Express, to the updated and required version, 2012 Server Express. This document is very important and should be read completely prior to any attempt to upgrade your DL Windows software.

Disappearing Networx Serial Numbers in the Link/Unlink Profiles screen

When a Networx lock is "discovered" in the DL-Windows software, a DL-Windows Lock Profile is required to be "Linked" to the physical lock to allow communication with DL-Windows.

There are 3 areas in the Tools > Link/Unlink Profiles screen:
> Available Lock Profiles
> Locks Available by Serial Number
> Linked Locks

To Link a Lock Profile to an assigned lock: In the Available Lock Profiles field, click to select a Lock Profile, then in the Available Locks By Serial Number field, click to select the physical lock to Link. The pair will automatically move down to the Linked Locks grid at the bottom.

Note: A seemingly strange occurrence happens when a lock is selected in the Available Lock Profiles field but there is no matching Lock Type available: The "Available Locks" seem to disappear. This is because Lock Types (models) must match for successful Linking. When a Lock Profile is selected, the Available Locks By Serial Number field automatically filters and displays only matching Lock Types.

If an incorrect Linking was made, or if you wish to undo a Linking, simply select the Linked lock from the Linked Locks grid and click the Unlink Lock button (the Lock Profile and the available
locks will return to their respective lists, and will thereafter be available for Linking.

New version of DL Windows available for download

     The newest version of DL Windows, version 5.5.3, is now available through the Alarm Lock home page.

    There are several new features in the software besides just the new lock models. New models include the P/DL6300, ArchiTech N90 and N95 with support for the keypad/prox and keypad/smart prox and N90L. The ArchiTech locks now support Toggle mode similar to the residency function in the 4100 series.

    The software will now allow Bluetooth credentials to be created in the software and send the credentials to any supporting lock and send a text message to the phone number listed in the users information and allow you to pre-select a date on which to disable the Bluetooth user.

    There are also searchable User Categories in the Global Users screen and enhanced emergency lockdown functions where the emergency user can be allowed only to initiate the lockdown/passage but not take the system out of lockdown.

     These are just some of the features that are available as there are many more. There is a ReadMe file in the downloaded folder that has all the new features with descriptions. You can read over this document to get familiar with all the new features.

Why does my previously working DL-Windows V5 installation now produce an error, stating "Unable to Connect to the Database"?

If DL-Windows has not been launched for a period of time, sometimes only more than a couple of days, Microsoft Windows may decide to conserve computer resources by stopping the service that supports the DL-Windows database. The following message would appear:

Proceed as follows:

1. Verify that the service MSSQL$ALSQLEXPRESS is running (press Ctrl + Shift +Esc to launch Task Manager, then click the Services tab or search for Services).

 

2. With the Services tab open, click the Name header to alphabetize the services. If the Status of the service labeled MSSQL$ALSQLEXPRESS is "Stopped", click the Services button to open a UAC (User Access Control) window. Note: Your MS Windows login status must be a "Local Administrator", or otherwise your login must have the credentials to proceed further. The Services screen is shown below:

3. Right-click the service named SQL Server (ALSQLEXPRESS), shown highlighted in the image above, and click Properties.

4. Click the Start button to start the service.

To prevent this service from being stopped in the future, click the Recovery tab, then click on each pull-down menu for First failure, Second failure and Subsequent failures and change each from Take No Action to Restart the Service as shown in the image below:

How do I pair a wireless remote to a Networx PL lock?

The following pairing procedure assumes the PL Networx lock has been powered and at least one Administrative User proximity credential (Users 2-11) has been enrolled into the lock (its DL-Windows Lock Profile downloaded into the lock). Keep this proximity credential physically available, as it will be used during the below procedure. Note: The following procedure is unique to the PL Networx lock and is NOT supplied with the programming instructions included with the remote release (RR-1BUTTON, WI1999 and RR-4BKEYFOB, WI2004).

Proceed as follows:
1. Disconnect the lock battery connector.
2. Short the two white wires (Remote Input wires) together for 10 seconds to ensure discharge of all capacitors. After 10 seconds, remove the short.
3. Re-connect the battery pack. The lock immediately sounds 3 short beeps (if these 3 beeps are not heard, start again at step 1). Over the next 7 - 9 seconds, the lock performs its power-up self-test, and indicates it is ready to operate by sounding 7-beeps.
4. At the lock proximity reader, present the enrolled Administrative User (Users 2-11) proximity card. The lock unlocks and enters a 30-second "remote release enroll sequence" during which the green LED flashes.
5. With the remote release in hand, observe the remote release LED as you perform the next steps:
a. Press and hold a remote release button.
b. The remote release red LED lights...keep holding the button…
c. When the remote release LED flashes green, release the button...
d. Wait a few seconds...observe the LED as follows:
·  LED solid green = Pairing successful. To pair another button, go to step 1.
·  LED solid red = Pairing unsuccessful. Start again at step 1.

After step 5, the lock will exit the "remote release enroll sequence" and will return to normal operation

  

PL6100 locks must have at least 59.d firmware

ETPLN locks must have at least 63.d firmware

PL6500 locks must have least 60.f firmware

Do I need to upgrade the firmware in my gateways and locks?

The answer is YES. When new firmware becomes available for either the Alarm Lock Networx gateways or locks, you should upgrade. There are many reasons why but the most important is to keep the products up to date with the latest features.

When we create new versions of the DL Windows software, the Networx locks and gateways may have new features available such as remote lockdown. We also have new products such as the Generation 2 gateways and expanders that, if the locks have old firmware, may not work properly with these new items.

To see what version of firmware is installed in your gateways or locks, open DL Windows and then open "Gateway Config". The gateways will be listed and the current firmware version installed will be displayed. To find the installed firmware version of the locks, open the "Gateway lock table" and each lock assigned to that gateway will display the current firmware version.

Now go to the Alarm Lock software website, here, and compare your model of gateways and locks firmware with the most current. Now download the latest version of firmware and upload the firmware to the gateways or locks. NOTE: You may need to perform a full upload of the programming once the firmware is upgraded. It is recommended to do this even if explicit instructions don't indicate that you must.
